Water Quality

PA Growing Greener logoThanks to a grant from the PA Department of Environmental Protection's Growing Greener Program, the Wyoming County Conservation District has a full-time watershed specialist who focuses on improving the quality of the county's surface and ground water. This is achieved through watershed assessment, procurement of funding, technical assistance, education and outreach, and the creation of strategic plans to restore and protect watersheds.

Education and outreach projects include:

  • Resource management tours to show students the theory and practicality behind natural stream restoration designs

  • Demonstrations of the importance of watersheds and the need for stormwater control

Technical assistance projects include:

  • Assisting local watershed groups with grant applications and annual events such as trout derbies and tree plantings

  • Organizing stream clean-up programs

  •  Assisting local residents with streambank stabilization projects
